Japan to let prefectures declare new anti-COVID
measures but won't curb social activities

As the number of coronavirus infections soars to
unprecedented levels, Japan will allow prefectural
governments to take stronger COVID-19 measures
tailored to their own needs, Daishiro Yamagiwa,
the minister in charge of the government's
COVID-19 response, announced Friday.

日本は都道府県に新しいコロナ対策を宣言することを
許すが、社会活動は抑制しない

コロナウイルスの感染者数が前例のないレベルに増加する
中、日本は都道府県庁はそれぞれの必要性に合わせたより
強いコロナの対策を取ることを許すと、政府のコロナ対応
の担当大臣である山際大志郎大臣が金曜日発表した。

◆背景知識解説
------------------------------------------------------------------------

感染者数が過去最多の２倍以上となる中、
岸田政権はまん延防止や緊急事態宣言などの行動制限は
しないと表明し続けています。

しかし、病床も逼迫しだし、「行動制限ではない」
という範囲で、都道府県が「高齢者の外出自粛」などを
要請できる[「BA.5対策強化宣言」を出せるようにしました。

死者は高齢者に偏っているので、賛成の声もある一方、
高齢者はもうすでに気をつけており、
他の人が家庭内や施設内、病院内に持ち込まれて感染する
から本質的な解決方法ではないという批判の声もあります。
