Japan to lift coronavirus state of emergency in 39 prefectures

The government decided Thursday to lift the state
of emergency imposed in response to the
coronavirus in all but eight of the nation's 47
prefectures, as Prime Minister Shinzo Abe faces
acute pressure to achieve a delicate balance,
suppressing a resurgence of the virus while
rekindling the faltering economy.

日本は39県でのコロナウイルス緊急事態を解除へ

安倍晋三首相は不安定な経済を再活性化させつつ、
ウイルスの再増加を抑え込み、微妙なバランスを
達成する即急なプレッシャーに直面し、政府は木曜
日、国の47都道府県の8つを除きすべてでコロナウイ
ルスへの対応として宣言されている緊急事態を解除
することを決めた。

◆背景知識解説
------------------------------------------------------------------------

当初5月6日までだった緊急事態宣言は、新規感染者の
減少が不十分であること、病院の逼迫体制がまだ続いて
いること、検査などの今後の対応が不十分なことを理由
に、5月末まで延長されました。

しかし、14日、21日にも途中で見直しすることも述べられていました。

自粛の効果もあり、かなりの都道府県で新規感染者はゼロと
なるなど、状況が改善したことなどから、
14日、北海道、東京、神奈川、埼玉、千葉、大阪、京都、兵庫
の８都道府県を除き、緊急事態宣言が解除されました。
