Emperor Naruhito cut a grand figure Tuesday as the
deep purple curtains of his canopied, 6.5-meter-tall
throne were pulled apart to reveal him enrobed in
an orange-brown garment, a black crown atop his
head, as he announced his enthronement to the world.

◆背景知識解説

5月1日に即位された天皇陛下ですが、
内外に即位を宣言される即位礼正殿の儀は10月22日に行われました。

祝日になっていたこともあり、
多くの国民ががテレビ中継でその様子を見ることができました。

また、外国から多くの王族、首脳、政府関係者が来日し、即位を祝いました。
