Reported crimes in Japan fell below 1 million mark last year
The overall number of crimes committed in Japan continued to drop in
2016, falling below the 1 million mark for the first time in the
postwar era, according to the annual White Paper on Crime released
Friday by the Justice Ministry.

日本の報告された犯罪は昨年、100万の大台から落ちる
金曜日に法務省によって発表された１年に１度の犯罪白書によると、日本で犯
された犯罪の全体の数は2016年に下がり続け、戦後時代以来初めて、100万の
大台を割り込んだ。

犯罪件数は14年連続で減り続けており、ついに100万件を割り込みました。
これは2002年の約1/3で、かなり減っていることになります。
理由としては、犯罪の70％以上が窃盗で占められており、窃盗は監視カメラ
が多く設置されたことなどで激減したことなどが挙げられます。
ただ、全体としては減っているものの、高齢者の犯罪が増えている点が
懸念材料として挙げられています。
